I have the HONOR of capturing life through my camera. I had the pleasure of capturing Irasema, a breast cancer survivor. When I met her and listened to her story, I had to hold my tears back. What a brave woman along with her great family that stood by her during her treatment. I asked her if she would share her story with my blog readers, and she was more than happy to do so. I hope her story can be an inspiration as it was for me.
I wanted to recognize Irasema in the “Fame Client Category” on my blog for giving us a great example of life.
Here is her story.
“My name is Irasema. I am 36 years old and I am a Breast Cancer Survivor. On September 17, 2009 I was diagnosed with Stage Three Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Because the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes and the lump in my breast was large enough to warrant a mastectomy, I had to undergo surgery to remove my tumor and some of my underarm lymph nodes that were infected. Over 18 weeks, I had a three-drug combination chemotherapy. It was the roughest part of my treatment because “I lost my hair”. Six weeks after chemotherapy I began with 20 minutes a day of radiation therapy, five days a week for six weeks in a row. Recently I am taking a hormonal therapy. Cancer gave me the gift of compassion, sensitivity, tenderness and peace. It gave me time to reflect on that which is important in life, time to meditate, time to pray, time to appreciate, time to love and be loved, time to heal. Now, a year and a half after I was diagnosed, I can say I have been blessed. I have family members, a husband, friends and colleagues who I can count on for emotional support and day to day help! I have God in my life who has granted me the courage and the strength to keep fighting against this disease with a positive attitude! Thank you Lord for caring about all aspects of my health, my mind, my emotions and my body. Thank you Lord for giving me hope and giving me the ability to be joyful, and remain faithful! Thank you Lord for many blessings!”
Here are some of the images that I was able to capture.
